If body humor grosses you out, this certainly isn't the series for you. But if you're a fan of Kroll's work, love an excellent voice acting cast, and want to revisit the hell that is growing up, Big Mouth is for you.
Naturally, an honest take, in a frank idiom, on the crude rituals and abject humiliations of pubescence will toy with forbidden thoughts. Big Mouth does so as a matter of course, for reasons organic to its characters.
Big Mouth is able to explore its relatively mundane material in entertainingly creative ways.
While Big Mouth might not have the zip of Bob's Burgers, the sharpness of South Park, or the heart of BoJack Horseman, it is a ton of fun to watch and laugh along with, and a worthy contemporary of those animated greats.
It might be simple gross-out comedy, but it also feels like we should be talking about this stuff more openly and more often.
