The true brilliance of this show lies in the cues it takes from Hannibal's high aesthetic standards.

What makes Hannibal such an essential and worthwhile ongoing project is that it never loses sight of its moral equation, even as it becomes untethered from reality.

Welcome back, Fannibals! It's been a long wait, but Bryan Fuller's incredible, dark and beautifully haunting take on Dr. Lecter has finally returned, and if the premiere episode is any indication, we're in for one hell of a season of Hannibal.

Hannibal is the rare network show with an utterly unique visual palette - even if it's one many might find distinctly unpalatable.

With the first two episodes of season two of Bryan Fuller's brilliant reimagining of Thomas Harris' Hannibal... the creators of what I considered to be the best network drama of 2013 set the stage to possibly top their first remarkable season.

The psychological cat-and-mouse games the characters play are more interesting and a welcome respite from the intense, horrifying serial killer stories.

Audience Reviews for Hannibal: Season 2

As season 2 progresses, the characters started to become annoying. This season's main story line revolves around Will Graham's attempt on proving his innocence after falsely being identified as the Chesapeake Ripper. Mads Mikkelsen and Hugh Dancy continued to provide strong performance while others annoyed the hell out of me: Alana Bloom who sleeps with Hannibal and providing alibis for him, Freddie Lounds' dumb disappearing mystery, Beverly Katz being killed due to incredible stupidity. The plot twists were unbelievable, some of the subplot were boring as hell and completely pointless like Verger family problems. I mean, the showrunner has improved the series overall, but they did missed out on providing intelligence instead of shocking the audience with bizarre, gruesome deaths. The season finale was probably the biggest bull crap ever, I hope they will change the writers for the next season but keep the current actors.

This was just brilliant television from start to finnish. Long gone are the filler episodes from S01, that despite being interesting and always having a running theme with the episode, were stalling the good bits. S02 solves that problem and puts everything into high gear, with amazing plot twists, stellar and dreamy dialogues, top-notch cinematography, bizarre soundtrack and perfectly acted by the actors who don't have an easy task at hand. It's as if this show and characters are living in a complete alternate universe where the outside world just doesn't matter and won't show up.

Fans of the books and movies will also get plenty of nods but the changes made work and more importantly, build towards something grand. Many pieces are set for the future but that ending... wow, that ending will leave you miserable, unbeknownst to where this pure Horror show will drive us next.

Somehow manages to improve on the near-perfect previous season, keep both eyes on Fuller.
