It's the kind diversity that colleges dream of putting on the cover of their admissions brochures.

The show (whose executive producers include Shonda Rhimes) risks being just another costume drama with tiresome power struggles and who-cares romantic entanglements.

What remains to be seen is whether Still Star-Crossed can find that sweet spot again as it develops - or whether it will continue to coast along on its lavish, gorgeous aesthetic.

The writing is so scattered, it's hard to find anyone, Montague or Capulet, to root for. A plague on both their houses.

Merely drafting a sequel to a Shakespeare tragedy smacks of tremendous, ill-advised moxie.

Still Star-Crossed is off the tracks from the opening moments. Rhimes' customarily snappy dialogue has been replaced with something that sounds like special-ed Shakespeare, interrupted by the occasional thudding anachronism.
